Supreme Court has Poker Case
The United States is ripe with controversy over the online casino gambling
industry but the situation has really reached the apex of debate in Washington
State, the only US state that has draconian and super harsh penalties for the
actual gamblers at the internet gaming sites. Both the online casinos and the
internet poker gambling industry have contested Washington’s overly harsh laws
and the case pushed through by the Poker Player’s Alliance is actually no longer
in the lower courts and is up to the Washington Supreme Court for a ruling.
Washington State is the only US state that has made the offshore online casinos
and poker sites a full felony offense for Washingtonians who gamble at these
sites. The offense is right up there with child pornography and much more
notably offensive crimes then merely gambling at an online casino from the
privacy of your own home. The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is one of the most
notably poker advocacy organizations in the US right now and has more than one
million players supporting the cause as well as funding the projects that the
PPA takes on in an effort to more widely legalize and regulate internet poker in
the US market.
Lee Rousso is heading up the online casino poker case in Washington and is
Rousso is the PPA’s main Washington State Director. A pro-poker ruling within
the State Supreme Court would be a major coupe for the PPA and would further the
internet poker cause throughout the country, strengthening legal action in other
states and at the federal level. |
