Legalized Games Coming
New Jersey is making headlines this week as the state government has firmly
sided in favor of the online casinos and will begin to offer legalized internet
gambling out of Atlantic City by the end of the year. Like many US states, New
Jersey has really suffered from the recession and economic downturn and
expansions within the internet gambling really provide the state with the
ability to generate some needed income for the state budget. New Jersey is not
the first US state to look into legalized intrastate online casino gambling as a
way to fund the state budget but this state was the first to so quickly act on
the plans. The New Jersey government took the stance that illegal internet
gambling was already taking place throughout the state and that moving quickly
on new regulations would give the government time to generate revenues for not
only the state, but also for New Jersey’s weakening land gambling industry in
Atlantic City.
The US land casinos were hit very hard by the recession and with a rough economy
in the US, Atlantic City has still not recovered to the pre-recession levels.
The New Jersey proposal for regulating online casinos in the state has already
obtained preliminary approval in the Senate Wagering and Tourism Committee and
it is thought that with this approval underway the rest of the house and senate
will rapidly make adjustments and push through the needed New Jersey internet
gambling legislation.
Online casino gambling is thought to be another draw to New Jersey once the
regulations are in place. Atlantic City is already a beacon of gambling fun for
the land gambling industry and New Jersey has proposed that the new gambling
regulations allow Atlantic City companies to supplement their land gambling
venues with legal intrastate internet gambling offerings too. |
