Choice Holds the Answer
The online casino gambling debate has waged strong in the United States and
there is really very little new happening right now as the bills slowly wind
their way through Congress. One apt comparison in the gambling industry though
really brings home the situation and that’s an analogy to the show Lost. This
popular major network show has captivated the world, and certainly the United
States, for six years now and with the finale complete it’s time to analyze what
Lost has done for the collective conscious of the United States and how the
concept of freedom and choice play into the online casinos as well.
The show Lost has really centered on not only the debate between good and evil,
but more so the concept of choice – the freedom to make and shape your own life
and future. The online casino gambling debate really comes down to this simple
concept as well even though the politicians have long made the debate about
everything except for freedom of choice. The US Constitution guarantees
Americans the right to their personal liberties and freedoms and Barney Frank
along with several other key politicians have claimed that banning and blocking
offshore online casinos impedes Constitutional freedoms.
The show Lost really took a close look (though viewers might not have realized
it) at the philosophy behind choice and the conclusion of the show really
indicated that the show’s writers believe that choice is one of the ultimate
freedoms and though it may not lead to the happiest life for every single person
(just as online casinos are bound to lead to problem gambling issues for some)
it doesn’t negate each person’s basic right to choice. |
