Avoiding Payment Bans on Online Casinos
Several US states over the past several months have begun to aggressively look
for ways to fully legalize an intra-state online casino gambling industry that
would provide tax revenue to the state budget but not trigger the federal level
blocks and bans in place as a part of the UIGEA. And while several states are
still in the development and planning stages of their implementation of the
online casinos, the state of New Hampshire just announced a new method that will
go into effect next week and will allow the state to sell time on the
state-licensed online casinos without ever taking payments through the internet.
The New Hampshire state government hopes that the new system of using the state
lottery to sell internet time will successfully circumvent any UIGEA concerns.
The UIGEA is designed to specifically stop online casino gambling payments
between the gambling sites and potential US gamblers. The US states though argue
that they have the right to offer intrastate gambling for their state residents
only. And since the federal government has not shown protest to this claim and
the current legalization efforts rampant all over the US states right now, New
Hampshire feels that the only last obstacle would be that the banks are
designing systems to block the payments from any type of internet gambling site.
To avoid these bank level blocks the New Hampshire officials announced that
online casinos within the state will operate via tickets sold through the New
Hampshire lottery.
Just as New Hampshire residents use land based venues to purchase lottery
tickets from the New Hampshire Lottery, they will now also be able to buy cash
that can be used to fund their online casino accounts. The state seems to think
this system will fully work and not trigger the federal officials so the system
will go live very soon. |
