Forming Bill Anyhow
The development of a New Jersey online casino gambling industry has been met
with a whole lot of controversy in the state because the New Jersey government
is quite keen on launching an intrastate internet gambling industry run through
the land gambling venues, but the land gambling venues are, incredibly,
protesting the changes. Although it seems like a win-win situation for the New
Jersey government and the Atlantic City land casinos that have been struggling
because of the recession and drops in land based destination gambling, the
Atlantic City gambling groups feel like a full and developed New Jersey internet
gambling industry will undermine the current gambling infrastructure in the
state.
The land gambling venues have spoken out strongly against the online casino
gambling legislation that is in the process and in development, but the
government is continuing full steam ahead regardless of the complaints. The
point of view from the land gambling companies is interesting, but could be
unfounded because the New Jersey politicians are very clearly writing the
legislation so that the new online casinos are forced to operate through the
land based venues – thus infusing these companies with more revenue. And the
argument about the internet gambling sites taking away business from the land
casinos is also discounted by the fact that New Jersey gamblers are *already*
gambling through the internet but the state and the New Jersey gambling groups
are simply not receiving a cut of the revenue.
Online casinos are prevalent throughout the US despite the fact that they are
illegal. Nearly every single US state has rampant internet gambling action
occurring but because there is no legislation and regulation in place these
gambling funds are easily leaving the state and the country. New Jersey is
currently in the process of ensuring that the fast majority of the funds are no
longer directly going offshore, but rather through New Jersey companies so that
taxes can be collected on the revenue. |
