One Down, Two to Go: 1

The House Financial Services Committee has made a momentous first step that has been applauded by the whole of the online casino gambling industry; the Committee actually marked up HR 2267 and passed through the bill so that it will now go to the larger branches of the government for further debate and passage. Barney Frank has been working toward this goal for the past more than three years and finally the US is one step closer to a regulated and licensed online casino gambling industry. HR 2267 is a piece of regulation that will provide more protections to the US gambling public through the close control and regulation of the internet gambling market. There were hurdles and debates to overcome in order to pass HR 2267 but with suggestions and amendments from other politicians the bill was able to pass through further into the approval process.

One of the key changes that was made is an amendment put forth right at the last minute before the Committee was due to vote on the bill. Congressmen Brad Sherman and John Campbell changed the requirement so that even if the companies are offshore online casinos they must have a base in the US before they can pass through the licensing process. This was the perfect change that was needed to ensure that the bill passed with a large majority: 41-22-1.

This was a key change that was needed to clinch the deal but is not the only change to Barney Frank’s original bill; other adjustments include measures meant to protect online casino gamblers through spending limits as well as requiring the sites to post the odds and stats before the start of all of the chance games.
