Online Casinos Prepare to Fight
The new Belgian regulations that put unnecessary requirements on foreign
gambling companies interested in entering the Belgian government are being
called out by not only the foreign online casinos that are not able to obtain
gambling licenses without first operating within the land industry, but also the
European advocacy groups that monitor not only what the land and online casino
sites are doing within the market but also how these internet gambling companies
are being treated by international gambling regulations. The Remote Gambling
Association and the European Gaming and Betting Association have announced that
are specifically looking at the protectionist aspect to the Belgium laws and
calling on the European Commission to address this blatantly anti-EU policy
piece of Belgian regulation.
Belgian authorities have stood by their new regulatory policy as a safeguard
that is in place only with the protection of the state gamblers in mind – a
claim that is scoffed at by foreign online casinos and the two advocacy
organizations. What’s really happening is that the Belgian officials have
created a clear marketplace that gives priority to the gambling groups already
established within Belgium and creates an impossibly hard regulatory barrier in
place as a way to make it very difficult for the foreign online casino gambling
groups to enter Belgium’s gambling market.
The advocacy organization has released an informed opinion on how the Belgian
officials could better regulate the land and online casino gambling market if
the integrity and safety of the internet gambling companies was the real concern
– instead of forcing these companies to operate land based companies throughout
Belgium the officials need to develop a comprehensive set of standards and
requirements for gambling groups seeking Belgian licensing – a process that
would be much more fair and equal for foreign operators. |
