Polish Online Casino Laws Called Out
Foreign online casino gambling companies are breathing a mini sigh of relief
this week as the European Commission cited the Polish government for its
non-compliant drafted internet gambling regulations. The Eastern European
internet gambling market has been a hot topic over the past few months because
of hopes that European online casinos can easily expand their presence into
these new markets. But Poland’s draft regulations are following in line with the
protected Western European countries that still continue to create a problem for
the European Commission even though the Commission has issued years of warnings,
threats, and citations. The Polish regulations clearly are aimed at giving
favorable access to Polish based companies and vie for an unfair share of the
licensing market as well.
The precise issues that the Commission had with the online casino gambling
policies include specifications that any internet gambling site operating in
Poland would not only have to operate off of servers within the country, but the
gaming site would also need to prove financial contribution to the Polish
economy as well. These restrictions would unfairly keep online casinos that have
jumped through the regulatory hoops in other countries from accessing Polish
players despite the EU policies in place regard the free trade and commerce
between all EU member sites.
The Polish officials have not yet noted how they plan to alter the regulations
to meet the compliance demands of the European Commission, but the foreign
online casino industry is naturally worried that Poland will follow suite with
France and pass the controversial regulations as is despite concerns and
objections from the Commission. |
