Keep Out the Online Casinos
The Israeli online casino gambling market is essentially non-existent because of
strong regulations in the country that strictly ban the offshore and domestic
gaming sites from accessing the potential Israeli gamblers. There are only two
legal forms of gambling in the country and the online casinos are not included
in these exceptions – a small national lottery and a bit of sports wagering are
the only two legal gambling activities allowed in Israel. But the internet
gambling industry is a pervasive industry and the gaming sites are finding their
way into the country anyway, a fact that has alarmed Israeli politicians and
could force the Israeli government to put bans and censorship blocks in place as
a way to more tightly control the Israeli gambling industry.
The new talks are focusing on putting up ISP level blocks on known online
casinos that accept Israeli internet gamblers. This trend toward ISP level
censorship is a really alarming trend that has cropped up in the past year in
regards to internet gambling. The Israeli government is currently developing a
plan that will include a specific list of questionable online casino gambling
sites that need to be blocked by the ISPs.
This new action is occurring very rapidly as well; the Australian government has
spent months developing a list of blocked sites and online casinos, but the
Israeli government is asking that the ISPs block the list of illegal sites
within a mere 48 hours. This could drastically change the face of the internet
in Israeli if the government continues to use censorship as an appropriate way
to force compliance and block questionable sites. |
