Abandoned Money Used by Government
Online casino gamblers and bettors in the United Kingdom who may have unclaimed
money in old gambling accounts may want to take a close look at their old
accounts because the UK government is working to pass a new law that will use
abandoned gambling funds in dormant accounts to fund public and social service
projects in the UK. The UK has an incredibly active online casino betting market
right now and thousands of those bets are placed on sporting events around the
country. The Tourism and Heritage Minister, John Penrose, has been asked by the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport to compile a report that explores this
precise topic while also looking into the amount of funds that have been left in
these dormant accounts.
Penrose appointed the MP of Bath, Don Foster, to specifically compile the report
while looking at the legal snafus that the government would run into in order to
earmark these dormant land and online casino account funds for public projects.
Foster will use the remaining months this summer and fall to compile the
research for the report and then present his findings to the Department along
with his assessment on needed changes that would allow this new action to take
place. Foster announced that he plans to meet with representatives from all over
the land and online casino betting industries to gather their take on the
proposal and glean insight from every side of the situation.
One of the key components to the proposed action is that the UK would still
allow online casino bettors to reclaim their account funds even after they had
been used for the social projects, they would simply have to prove ownership of
the account – this is a much less controversial issue than actually taking these
dormant account funds and allocating player money for other uses. |
