Where is Justice in the US
The US Justice System has received a lot of controversial criticism over the
past several months because of an emerging trend that indicates that money,
rather than justice has been the chief motivating factor much of what the US
government has done regarding the online casino sites. There are countless
examples of celebrities getting away with, literally, murder because of their
actions and yet the US government and the Department of Justice is spending
millions of dollars to hunt down and prosecute illegally operating online
casinos – it just doesn’t make a lot of sense really. The only celebrity to
receive a real prison sentence for their actions is Wesley Snipes who is serving
a three year prison sentence for tax evasion.
Snipes and the online casinos have a lot in common – the punishments are
ridiculous harsh because of the money that the government is losing. Snipe’s
white collar crime merits three years in federal prison because he cheated the
government out of money but yet if you look at Leonard Little, apparently
killing another individual while driving drunk, then getting caught driving
drunk a second time is just not enough to merit prison time…or even jail time
for that matter because Little has walked free and remains on probation for his
actions.
Where is the justice in these actions? The government is sending a disturbing
message that crimes against individuals are just not as important as the money
that is being made by the government and federal coffers. The online casino
companies are hunted down and pursued while the US justice system continues to
let more violent and public safety related crimes slide right out of the system
without much penalty – it begs the question, where is the justice in the US? |
