Japan Against Online Casino Sites Too
The Japanese government considered regulating the global online casino gambling
industry within Japan for the briefest moment when the global recession hit hard
and even the Japanese market was effected. Those considered regulations never
materialized though and internet gambling, the online casinos, betting, and
poker sites, are actually illegal in Japan. According to the Tokyo police
department though illegal internet gambling is still happening and the police
actually cracked down on the market with the arrest of three individuals, two
employees of the illegal gambling websites and the operator, Tomoyuki Miyamoto.
This particular gambling ring has been under investigation and tracking by the
Japanese officials for quite some time but was hard to pinpoint the individuals
involved because of the portable nature of the online casinos and the industry
as a whole.
Miyamoto is not only facing charges for illegally operating the gambling ring,
but also because these illegal online casinos allowed minors to gamble and place
bets at the sites without regard for age checks and safeguards. Miyamoto is a
prominent part of the Tokyo internet market through his company Seeds Style Co.
Those involved in the gambling ring were definitely arrested for their
participation in an illegal online casino gambling ring but there is also a
quandary facing the Tokyo police right now – what to do with the nine internet
gamblers who gambled through these illegal sites.
As the police sort out the information in the case they will have to decide
whether or not those gambling are also facing charges in the situation or if the
law mostly just extends to the operators of these illegal online casinos.
Miyamoto is not caving right now either – he claims that his internet gambling
operations were designed within the confines of Japanese law and that he
consulted a lawyer on the structure of the games before the sites were launched. |
