Invading Personal Privacy
The celebrities and political figures in the United States have very few rights
when it comes to personal privacy and protection of rights that go into the
media. Public figures that have chosen the spotlight lose the right to privacy
and their lives and decision have long become open fodder for the national and
international media. Now that the internet is such a prevalent medium the level
of personal privacy invasion has gone to a whole new level and celebrities, pop
stars and public figures are facing invasive attention from the online casinos,
the media, and any internet user able to manipulate a browser and find
information through the internet.
There have been many concerns lately that the online casinos and betting
companies are actually crossing the line sometimes when they offer up odds on
personal behaviors and events in a celebrities life. The Lindsay Lohan situation
naturally comes to mind right now because the international attention on her
arrest has been so well covered by media outlets that there is not a shred of
privacy surrounding her arrest, court case and subsequent ruling of jail time.
The online casino betting shops have even offered up a wealth of odds and
analysis on Lohan’s personal character and how this will play into her serving
more or less time in jail.
The invasion of privacy is a very real concern and one that has not yet been
navigated thoroughly through the internet because the medium is so new, and
particularly guidelines have not been set for the online casino bookies who are
so closely following these celebrities. |
