US Crackdown Having an Effect
Online casinos that service the US market are falling down right and left these
days because of the US payment blocks that are in place as enforcement measures
for the controversial UIGEA. The UIGEA enforcement regulations came into effect
at the beginning of the summer and the US banking and financial services
industries have spent the past two months scrambling for effective ways to block
all questionable online casino gambling transactions. Although the methods are
not fail proof by any means these initial efforts have been very effective in
putting the kibosh on a lot of the small online gambling sites that were still
able to cater to the US market.
The key to the ban has been the re-coding of transactions with the offshore
online casinos. All of the major US banks and financial institutions have combed
through their transaction register to specifically code those that were allowing
the online casino sites to payout winnings to players as well as accept their
deposits. Rival Gaming powered sites have felt the biggest effect from the
current crackdown by US banks and all of these gambling sites are folding this
week and closing their virtual doors as the payment processing issue continues
unsolved.
Interestingly though, the US banking industry asserts that these blocks on the
offshore online casinos are only temporary, that it is only a matter of time
before the gaming sites find a new method of processing transactions and again
circumvent the coding blocks at the financial institutions. The process of
blocking the gaming sites will be ongoing and the banks fear will take too much
time, effort, and money to prove effective in the fight against internet
gambling. |
