Email Censoring in the UK
The United Kingdom has a pretty widely open internet gambling industry in place
as a result of the liberalized gambling regulations that took effect back in
September 2008 and allowed the internet gambling companies a whole new level of
access to UK gamblers through advertising and more forms of media. With the
liberalization of the market though, these online casinos and gambling companies
are now held to a much higher standard than they were in years past. Now that
the online casino sites have access to the public through magazine
advertisements, commercials and other mainstream advertising methods they have
to ensure that all of the messages leaving the gambling group adhere to the
strict standards laid out by the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK.
The ASA has recently called out William Hill on one of the company’s email
marketing messages that was sent out to Will Hill gamblers. One of the key
components inherent in the gambling adverts and communications is that these
companies have to ensure that there are no misleading and over-sells for their
gaming products. Will Hill operates throughout the land and online casino
gambling market in the UK and the email campaign was a message intended to let
players know about a new bonus promotion running this week.
A complaint was sent to the ASA though because of vague details and the fact
that there were key details and requirements left out of the Will Hill emails.
The ASA not only ruled that Will Hill had to take remedial measures to correct
the error but the company was told to abandon this entire email campaign. |
