New Policies in North Carolina

The North Carolina government is tackling a tough issue right now as the online casino gambling concerns sweep all over the United States and the individual US states are left with the decision of how to actually enforce their intrastate gambling laws. Although offshore online casinos are not allowed to access state gamblers nearly every US state has faced other types of gambling that are suspiciously close to chance internet gambling. North Carolina has a rampant form of internet sweepstakes games that the North Carolina Senate has just now voting to make illegal throughout the state. The House though would have to agree on this point before the proposed bills could be passed into law.

Right now there are many opponents that argue that the internet sweepstakes parlors operate an awful lot like illegal online casino shops for the North Carolina gamblers. The key argument for keeping these sweepstakes gaming parlors lies in the claims that because gamblers are paying for internet time it is not chance gambling – they are entering a sweepstakes but not entering into the risks inherent in chance games. The North Carolina Senate heard this argument but still felt that the sweepstakes parlors were too close to the online casinos and voted a significant 47 to 1 in favor of banning the parlors.

With the Senate firmly in favor of banning parlors cynics feel like there is little chance that the state House will rule much differently. That being said, the House will also hold discussions and debates about the sweepstakes and online casino gambling industry before they go to vote and there is a chance that the House will not completely approve the Senate approved bill which would completely and fully ban these parlors from the state.
