Ascot Sport Loses Out
The Malaysian government has just announced that it will no longer considering
legalizing sports betting in the country because of fears that the industry
would corrupt the youth of the country. The fears are actually mostly unfounded
based on international research into online casino gambling and betting safety,
but that fact has had little actual effect on the government level discussions
on the issue. Instead the Malaysian government assessed the current pulse of
opinion in the country and informed Ascot Sports that it would not be receiving
the planned betting license this fall as was speculated.
Vincent Tan was heading up the business and licensing arrangement between the
Malaysian government and the Ascot Sports land and online casino betting site.
For quite a while it really seemed as though the Malaysian officials were
considering licensing betting sites into the market – it would have been a first
for this country and even the region. But concerns from the largely Muslim
population in the state have meant that Ascot will lose some of the company’s
invested interests that were already prepping for a fall entry into Malaysia.
Some of the key debate occurring in the market right now consists of claims from
sources outside of the Malaysian government claiming that Ascot Sports has
already received a license to operate in the country. The Malaysian government
has strongly denied these claims and the situation is at a standstill until the
debate and discussions ebb a little from high that was reached in the past
several weeks. |
