Blocking the Ads in Worry
The European Union has a pretty unique internet gambling market right now – one
that has actually caused a lot of international strife and conflict because the
EU government is not supporting the European Commission in its attempts to
create a fair and open European gambling market. With the EU government in the
spotlight these days in the industry media, a citizen campaign is looking to
create a movement that would force the European Parliament to formally address
the situation at hand in Europe – the blatant monopolies and protectionist
policies of several EU member states. The Right2Bet campaign launched in the
latter half of last year and centered on raising signatures so that the
initiative could force the government to make a decision.
The tacit approval through non-action is what angers most within the online
casino gambling industry. There is no way that the EU government is going to
support countries like Sweden, Greece and others in their attempts to block all
foreign internet gambling competition – but that is just precisely what is
happening when the government refuses to step in and give an opinion.
The latest news though out of this entire debacle is the fact that several major
EU nations have blocked the advertising spoofs created by the Right2 Bet
campaign. The spoofs gave a comical spin to the current situation but did not
portray those involved positively, particularly those countries that have taken
the protectionist measures to block the free trade of goods and services between
EU member-states. |
