New French Poker Sparks Controversy
The French online caisno gambling industry is slowly becoming more and more of a
reality thanks to gambling laws and regulations that are just now in development
in the country and are due for gradual implementation in the coming months.
Foreign online casinos and gambling groups have waited years for the French
government to open the doors to a more fair and inclusive internet gambling
industry – and just as hopes soar that the French government has “seen the
light” and chosen to operate with the EU rules in mind, a recent announcement
from Francaise des Jeux indicates that the state gambling monopoly plans to
enter the online poker industry well before the foreign sites receive their
planned licensing within the country.
As the French online casino gambling monopoly plans to enter the poker gambling
industry in cahoots with the land based gambling monopoly, Lucien Barriere, the
international industry is concerned that these two companies are creating a
“super company” that would prove hugely and unfairly competitive with foreign
operators planning to enter the market.
The planned online casino poker site will use licensed Cyberarts software to
operate the site. Some of the initial criticism coming out of the European
Gambling and Betting Association as well as other European gambling groups
centers on the fact that Barriere has no experience in the internet gambling
industry and these two companies together create a formidable force. Critics
speculate that the French government is, once again, staking a claim at a
monopoly of sorts in the market. |
