Predictions 2010: Italy Edition
The European gambling market on the whole is going to increase greatly over the
coming year if current gaming trends are any indication of the strong growing
acceptance for these markets. Online casinos have become a widespread stable of
the international land and internet gambling industry and several key European
countries are looking at expansion within this market for the first time. Within
Italy, although the online casinos are not specifically on the plan for 2010,
the internet poker industry is in the works. In fact, internet poker sites are
in the process of obtaining Italian licensing right at this moment, and the
consensus seems to agree that a full Italian poker market will emerge in the
first half of the year.
It’s interesting to note that the Italian government has a strong aversion to
online casinos in particular. The internet poker industry has escaped mostly
unscathed and is not counted as a game of chance, but chance gaming is still
out. With internet poker hitting the market in full force this year gamblers can
anticipate a huge surge in the revenue and gaming coming out of the country.
Expansions in Italian betting was incredibly well received throughout 2009 and
the same type of growth and interest is expected to take hold for internet
poker.
Beyond the internet poker industry though, analysts predict that the online
gambling market in Italy will see strong overall growth within all of the
various sectors. Unlike many restrictive countries operating internet gambling
in the EU, Italy is essentially clear with the European Commission because the
country has a fair licensing structure and allows foreign competition into the
market, this will continue throughout 2010. |
