Predictions 2010: Australia Edition
The online casino gambling industry in Australia is in for some really huge
changes if the national government has anything to say about it – and sadly, it
does. The Australian government has spent the past year pushing for tighter
controls within the nation’s land and internet gambling industry and filtering
controls are in the works throughout this year. The Aussie government has begun
to fully test the planned filters and found them highly effective in blocking
online casinos from the market. This is not fun news for the online betting
companies and foreign operators who have really eyed the Aussie market over the
past year with hopes of expanding into the market.
Australian officials are very anti online casinos and that is not likely to
change in 2010. Despite hopes outside of Australia that the government would
back off from its aggressive efforts to put up internet filters, the plans are
still on target. In addition to blocks for the online casino gambling sites,
land gambling is likely going to see some downsizes throughout the year as a
result of the Productivity Commission’s suggestions to the government for
changes.
Authorities in New South Wales have responded against any downsizes and are
really fearing what these changes will mean for the employment rates within the
land gambling industry – there are likely going to be some major job losses
throughout the year as betting companies cope with the new changes and
adjustments that the government has in the works. Mostly, the online casinos are
firmly out of the market and the land betting companies are in for some major
(negative) changes. |
