Personal Info Compromised
Ladbrokes is one of the top names in the online casino gambling industry and the
company has a long history within the UK market – the company operates from a
place of trust with the public, and respect. Perhaps it’s this very fact that
has the rest of the gambling industry quite so alarmed by the recent media storm
that has been created by an Aussie who claims to have the personal information
of more than 10,000 Ladbrokes account holders up for sale. The Aussie in
question claims to have previously worked for the online casino gambling group
and was able to obtain the player information through a security breach;
although he was going to initially report the breach he instead chose to take
this situation to the media, or more specifically, to The Mail on Sunday.
The Main On Sunday is a UK paper that was probably just as surprised as
Ladbrokes to hear about the security breach and the possible loss key personal
information from online casino gamblers. The information in question is so much
more than just the name and address of Ladbrokes players; this unknown seller
only goes by the name “Daniel” and claims to also hold the account numbers and
gambling history data in addition to all of the more persona details. This is
quite a bit of a fiasco for Ladbrokes and the company is one of the first major
online casinos in the market to encounter such a huge security breach.
“Daniel” claims that although he only has the information on 10,000 of the
Ladbrokes online casino gamblers, that he still has access to the rest of the
company’s 4.5 million registered players. Selling this type of information is
highly illegal and Ladbrokes announced that the company was working with police
to further investigate the situation and prevent the newspapers from receiving
all of the confidential player data. |
