A Hypocrite is Coming
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear could very well make himself a walking hypocrite
this month if he accepts gambling tax revenue from the huge online Powerball
lottery win that occurred in Georgetown, Kentucky. Beshear is a avid detractor
for the US online casino gambling industry and under his control the Kentucky
government is avidly fighting against the rights of the foreign gambling
industry within the state. The situation is directly related to the attempted
seizure of more than 140 domain names from online casinos and information
portals. This past week though, a Kentucky Powerball lottery player hit the
massive jackpot – more than US $128 million.
The big question now though centers on whether Governor Beshear is going to
accept the tax revenue that the state is rightly due. The State of Kentucky has
the right to collect more than $4 million in revenues off of that income – but
the money is illegally gained according to all of Governor Beshear’s actions
over the past week and many within the online casino gambling industry are eager
to see if Beshear will accept the winnings. If he does, you can be sure that the
name hypocrite is going to come up more than once in the media.
Governor Beshear has made a name for himself over the past year as strongly
against any form of online caisno gambling taking place in the state; and the
whole basis of his argument stems from the claim that illegal gambling is taking
money away from the legal land gambling venues. But cases such as this one
indicate that there actually still money potentially coming into the state
through internet gambling – a claim that Beshear would have to acknowledge in
the domain name case if he accepts the gambling taxes. |
