Haiti Help Happening
The online casino gambling industry has really stayed on the ball this month in
responding to the situation in Haiti. Haiti’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake rocked
the foundations of Port au Prince and destroyed the vast majority of the city.
As the world watched the initial footage in horror, several key members of the
gambling industry found a great way to respond – organizing fundraising events
targeted at the gambling community. Many key online casinos are leading
fundraising efforts for Haiti – and any that weren’t have surely responding
after a strong prompting from former Bodog founder Calvin Ayre’s that the
industry start raising charity funds.
After Ayre released a very public message of encouragement it wasn’t long before
many of the online casinos and poker gambling sites began announcing special
charity tournament events that enable the individual poker players to easily do
their part in supporting the vast amounts of relief work that will be necessary
in Haiti in the coming weeks, months, and years. Ayre in particular is really
leading by example and using Bodog’s prime position in the international poker
market, as well as his industry celebrity status to generate media attention –
all with the intention of raising $1 million in Haiti relief funds that will be
donated to Oxfam.
In addition to Ayre, Poker Stars and Full Tilt have already jumped on the boat
of online casinos and poker sites raising charity funds. Party Poker just
announced a new tournament event for its players. Doyles Room is also donating
all tournament fees for a set period of time, and other poker rooms and gambling
sites have also begun to announce their charity fundraising efforts that will
empower their players with an effective and easy way to donate to Haiti relief. |
