Match Fixing on Target
China is not a fan of the online casino gambling industry, and certainly not
many types of betting and other internet based gaming activities. One of the
chief concerns of the Chinese government (that echoes growing concerns in
Western markets) is match fixing – and this is one area where the Chinese
government is not budging, it’s unacceptable and there are hefty punishments
that accompany this business. The match fixing has been rampant in the sports
betting industry and the government announced that upwards of twenty officials
within the industry have already been arrested for illegal sports betting
activity – and that’s just the beginning. The Chinese government is strictly
against online casinos on principle, which means that illegal activity within
the industry is certainly unacceptable.
In addition to the sports betting officials who have been implicated in match
fixing cases, the gambling cartels (both land and online casino gambling) are in
the race and making tons of money buying the results of games as far away as
Belgium, Finland, and much of Eastern Europe. The European sports betting
officials have grown increasingly concerned with the extent and level of
match-fixing that has taken place over the past year and fully support the
Chinese governments attempts to track down where the match-fixing originates and
stop it at the source – harsh punishments are also in store for those caught
partaking in illegal match fixing.
The land and online casino gambling and betting organizations are so concerned
with match fixing because of the long term implications that these activities
have on the integrity of sports – it’s not good. The entire push behind sporting
events is the fact that they are legitimate skills competitions – the enthusiasm
for the game changes if the win goes to the highest bidder. |
