US State on the Cusp
The industry news in the United States has really heated up over the past
several weeks as it appears true that the state of New Jersey has plans to fully
legalize intrastate online casino gambling as a way to supplement the failing
land gambling revenues coming out of Atlantic City. The competition from
Pennsylvania and other neighboring states has really caused New Jersey to
consider which types of gambling expansions would best serve the state while
also allowing staying within the rules and limitations set forth in the federal
gambling policies that ban offshore online casinos from operating in the US
market. To counter that, states like New Jersey, California, Florida, and others
have announced plans and studies that are eventually aimed at introducing legal
forms of internet gambling in the states.
New Jersey is particularly hard hit right now because the number of gamblers
willing to make the drive to Atlantic City is lessening right in line with the
increase in gambling activity at the slots parlors in Pennsylvania and other
states. To be quite specific, the New Jersey government wants to add legal
sports wagering to the state with online casinos down the line as a preemptive
action against neighboring states like Pennsylvania which are heavily competing
with the business that used to go through Atlantic City and into the New Jersey
state coffers.
The online casinos would operate out of Atlantic City and the New Jersey
gambling bill supporters argue that the claims of problem gambling are no more
founded and concerning then the problem gambling within the land industry. For
that reason, there is actually even an increased level of control over the
gamblers and their activities if it is being monitored and watched by the state
versus the numbers of New Jersey gamblers illegally placing their wagers at
offshore gambling sites. |
