Advertising Licenses in UK
New policies and regulations are in the works in the United Kingdom right now in
regards to the ongoing disputes and concerns that foreign and offshore online
casinos are not contributing to the UK tax burden that falls on gambling
companies. The current regulatory structure put the vast bulk of the tax burden
on the UK licensed and operating companies, while letting foreign companies off
of the hook. New information from the UK Sports Minister indicates that new
regulations and policies are in development and will have foreign online casino
sites sharing the tax burden. And even beyond that though, there is an
indication that the advertising privileges will be the conduit through which the
UK government ensures that companies are paying taxes and following the system.
The existing structure in the UK regulatory is flawed, and there have been
concerns that merely forcing these companies to share the tax burden was not
enough to adequately solve the issues plaguing the system right now. But by
essentially holding the right to advertise hostage, it’s a solid way to ensure
that foreign online casinos are also paying their fare share of the UK gambling
tax burden. The new policies have not yet taken effect, but there is a strong
indication that this plan to license the advertising in the UK market could go
over well.
The key concern right now though is that all of these wonderful sounding changes
to the UK online casino gambling regulations will violate the EU trade policies.
The UK has an incredibly liberal gambling market, and there is a fear that
attempting to force foreign operators to obtain licenses of any sort to operate
in the market will not fall in line with EU free trade policies. |
