Demanding Penalization in France
The French market is getting pretty tense these days as French based online
casinos and gambling groups are aggressively protecting the last few months that
they have a legal right to monopolize the French gaming market. The French
government has long announced plans to legalize foreign online casino sites for
entry into the potentially lucrative French market. In fact, France has to end
its gambling monopoly to better comply with EU policies and practices related to
the free trade of goods and services. A key issue over the past several months
though is the time frame – the French government has really stalled lately in
its implementation of these gambling regulations that are “in development” and
in the mean time, the French monopolies are still quite active and protecting
their closed market for as long as possible.
Several French online casinos and gaming groups are now demanding that the
French authorities take the names of all of the gambling groups that are
currently jumping the gun and already taking French gamblers. Even further
though, French casino companies took the whole situation to a new level with
demands that any company caught offering online gambling services to French
citizens before the regulations fully take effect should be banned from the
market for as long as two years as punishment. It seems a bit juvenile that the
French companies are so aggressively pursuing this option considering full
licensing for foreign sites is just months away at this point.
All told, there are 14 online casinos that French gaming companies are accusing
of prematurely entering the market and asking that the French courts
specifically penalize with a licensing ban. There is no telling if the French
courts will follow through with this line of punishment…it seems as though the
French judicial system has a bit more to worry about then a dozen or so gaming
sites that are nearly legalized but jumped the gun a bit. |
