The industry news is just exploding with rumors lately regarding US states that are prepared to launch intrastate gambling as a way to bolster the amount of gambling revenue coming into the state. In addition to the online casinos, states are considering the potential revenue from efforts such as internet poker and sports betting. The list of states that have expressed interest in forming new bills, regulations and policies to expand online casino gambling is growing on a monthly basis (and even weekly lately). What started as just a couple of rogue states planning intrastate gambling has turned into a wave of action as state governments consider internet gambling a very viable way to increase the money funding their state budgets.

Hawaii is the latest of the US states to announce plans to expand land and online casino gambling – but only under tight controls. In states that currently have strong restrictions already, any expansions in gambling are likely to create a very decent influx of cash into the state coffers as a result of taxes on the companies. Hawaii plans a very small and tightly controlled industry at this point, but the plans are so new that there will likely be many changes in the coming months as the state alters and adjusts according to research and political suggestions.

The recession really hit the various state governments really hard and finances are tight. Hawaii’s story is like many of the other 50 states and in that way not very unique. But as the various states consider the potential of expanded land and online casino gambling, there is a lot of potential for unique nuances and it will be interesting to see how each state government alters their regulations and restrictions to fit the needs of the state budget as well as the state gamblers.
