France Under Fire...Again
The French online casino gambling market has come under scrutiny again this week
with the news that the French government is allowing the two state monopolies to
team up and offer an internet poker room to the mass market. At this time, the
rest of the European gambling industry still does not have access to the French
market despite the pending French regulations that have been under development
for quite some time now. According to the latest news, Francaise des Jeux and
Lucien Barriere are both going to launch into the internet arena with a joint
internet poker room – despite the fact that foreign online casinos are still not
able to compete with the state monopolies.
It’s this very fact that has the rest of the market concerned with where the
French online casino gambling industry is heading. Both of these companies
together will now have a prominent position in the emerging French market while
the rest of the industry watches and waits for the French government to finalize
all of the details of the new and supposedly more inclusive French regulations –
regulations that have been in development and finalization for nearly a year now
and are still finding delays and setbacks within the government.
In addition to growing animosity from the European licensed online casinos that
are not able to access the market, the European regulatory boards are also
expressing deep concerns with the way that the French market is developing and
how contrary these developments are to the regulations and policies laid out in
by the European Union for EU member-states, of which France is certainly a part. |
