Online Casino Fights Back
The US online casino gambling industry is highly controversial right now because
of the UIGEA and the possible punishments and negative action that will come
against payment processing companies that facilitate illegal US gambling.
MasterCard released a statement last week that indicated that companies are
recoding transactions and attempting to circumvent the credit card company’s
protections that it puts in place. There are likely several online casinos that
have gone this route as a way to continue operating in the US market, but some
of the other companies are livid that MasterCard would imply that they are
acting unscrupulously. PokerStars just issued a press release last week noting
that the company has not recoded transactions and instead uses still legal
methods to operate for the US market.
PokerStars is the largest online casino poker gambling company in the world and
operates in nearly every single open and valid market. PokerStars is one of the
few major companies that openly accepts US customers as a part of the basic
policy. There are still a handful of payment processing options open to US
players and PokerStars notes that it uses these accepted methods. Implications
from MasterCard that PokerStars, along with the other online casinos and poker
betting sites, are re-coding the gambling transactions are just false according
to the release.
The release went on to note that the company has not altered its processing
coding and is therefore relatively unaffected by the new MasterCard policies
that are forcing online casinos that were relying heavily on Visa and MasterCard
to find alternative payment methods. PokerStars goes on to note that the company
is allowing the US banks to decide whether or not they will accept 7995 coded
transactions, and those customers with banks that decline the transactions are
then offered alterative withdrawal and deposit options. |
