Fighting the Critics in Canada
The Quebec province in Canada plans to offer its own online casino gambling site
as a way to pull in some revenue from the already extensive amount of gambling
taking place in the country. Internet gambling is not regulated in Canada and as
such it has been a free-for-all in the country for years now. Several provinces
are stepping up and offering their own provincial legislation and regulations as
a way to corner some of those gambling funds that are leaving the province, and
even the country. And despite the fact that online casinos are already
incredibly popular in Canada, and Quebec in particular, the decision to allow
Loto-Quebec to launch its own gambling site has been met with criticism from
doctors in the province.
Loto-Quebec has countered the critics with a citation of statistics and facts
from European countries that have successfully implemented controlled state
gambling without have a negative effect on the levels of problem gambling in the
country. Although the Swedish online casino gambling monopoly is a hot topic of
contention in Europe right now, Loto-Quebec points to Svenska Spel as a key
example of how a government can implement a controlled gaming experience that
closely monitors the levels of problem gambling and creates a safe gambling
experience.
The Loto-Quebec online casino gambling site is expected to draw in a significant
$50 million each year for the provincial government to use to offset budget
concerns. Additionally, Loto-Quebec is a trusted state gambling company and it
seems better to divert some of the gambling traffic through a state owned
company rather than continuing to funnel all of the traffic through offshore and
remote online sites. |
