Pressing Hard for Online Casino Ban
A sudden alliance in the French online casino gaming industry has several of the
prominent French gaming companies teaming up to force fourteen foreign online
casinos out of the French market with a ban from the French courts. The French
gambling industry is still closed to foreign gambling competition until the
regulations fully pass and are implemented throughout the country. That being
said, fourteen online casinos have defied the policies and are current accessing
the French market and offering full chance games. The French operators are livid
and are asking the French courts to ban the fourteen companies from licensing in
the French market for a set period of time.
The fact of the matter is, it’s just not likely to go down very well if the
French courts do attempt to ban the foreign online casinos and even less likely
to end well if the courts punish these gaming sites. France has walked a fine
line over the past year – the country is still in violation of EU policies by
not allowing foreign online casino sites to legally operate in the market.
Although the French government has relented and agreed to alter the regulations,
they have neither passed nor taken effect at this point, which leaves the
foreign gambling companies at a loss.
It’s a technicality at this point – France has to open the market to foreign
online casinos, but they haven’t yet. Companies like Bwin and Unibet are but two
of the fourteen companies listed in the suit – if the French gaming operators
win these companies could be expelled from the market and forced to stay out of
the French market for as long as two years.
