Youth Program Teaches About Gambling
Some citizens in Ontario are worried about the possible introduction of internet
gambling in their area, particularly because the Ontario government is now more
open to the prospect by currently gauging the upsides and downsides of allowing
internet gambling. Furthermore, today’s youth are inescapably more at risk of
abusing the enjoyable experience of gambling, especially with the rapid
proliferation of online casinos worldwide. However, responsible measures were
undertaken by concerned citizens who know about gambling; a YMCA youth program
made gambling awareness its primary advocacy to reach out to the youth. This
program is designed to equip the youth with ample knowledge on the choices and
risks associated with online casino gambling.
Kids may easily fall prey into cultivating false notions about the online
casinos and internet gambling in general. Those who are used to playing internet
video games understand that the chances of winning increases through undertaking
more plays that further enhance their skills. However, the harsh reality of
online casino games is that playing more does not automatically translate to
winning more.
Renee Grenier, an outreach worker of St. Catherines YMCA, has pointed out that
he is not going to judge gambling as bad or good in his session. Instead, his
aim is for the kids to learn how to gamble safely. During the session, Grenier
asks the children to think of a thing that is significant to them and write it
down. He tells them that in gambling, the “thing” will be their stake with a
“winner takes everything” setup. This provides valuable insights into
understanding odds and value associated when playing at online casinos. As such,
when the youth are exposed to real situations wherein their most well-loved
things are those that they gamble: They are likely to think twice of giving up
what is valuable to them. |
