Protecting Canadian Tribal Gaming
The Canadian land and online casino gambling industry is altering a lot right
now as the provincial governments in Canada begin to seriously consider
expanding both land and internet gambling interests with the provinces as a way
to boost tax revenues feeding into the provincial budgets. Throughout all of
this though the tribal nations are concerned and interested in keeping a strong
level of control over their revenues and their industries. Like the US, tribal
gambling is a huge component of revenue and employment for the reservations in
the country and the First Nations Assembly last week met and looked at ways that
the tribal gambling commissions can keep control and sovereignty over their
gambling industries.
The plan right now is to create a First Nations Gaming act that will create
protections all throughout Canada and give the tribal land and potential future
online casinos with a high level of protection from the Canadian government. The
Chief of the Little Black Bear First Nation located in Saskatchewan, Perry
Bellegarde, feels that a First Nations gaming act would really give the tribal
land and online casino interests valuable control and occupation of the gambling
industry no matter what future legislation comes into effect throughout the rest
of Canada.
Right now the land casinos are one of the key ways that nearly all of the tribal
reservations are able to keep high employment rates and steady money coming in
through the reservation. The First Nations Assembly last week was a meeting that
was specifically looking to plan a gambling commission that can look out for the
interests of all of the First Nations in Canada. |
