There's Always Some Reason
The Canadian online casino gambling industry is on the verge of really exploding
right now as the various provincial governments look at the feasibility of
launching their own regulated gaming sites as a way to fill out the budgetary
problems and fund more needed programs in the region. This is the case all over
Canada and the British Columbian government was the first province to really
take that to the next stage and implement a state-run gambling site. Ontario is
now also considering launching state-run online casinos but some of the key
opposition is coming out of a gaming union in the province.
Interestingly enough the Canadian Auto Workers Union has launched a campaign
against he legalization of a fully Canadian and Ontarian online casino gambling
industry. The Union has more than 7,000 employees that are working within the
land gambling industry so the motivations are really clear—the Union is clearly
concerned that this new industry will obliterate the need for some Union jobs.
Rather than site the loss of jobs though, the Union has noted that the online
casinos are unsafe for players and are more likely to cause problem gambling
issues in the country.
These are just the patsy though, the real issues lies in the jobs. But the
argument is not really valid because with or without state regulated online
casino gambling there will be offshore gaming sites targeting Canadian gamblers.
Through regulation though the government is able to actually benefit from the
large levels of gambling that are occurring throughout the country. |
