Provinces Begin Online Casinos
The real push toward legalized online casino gambling in Canadian provinces has
just begun this week as several provinces firmly announce their plans to launch
state run monopolies. The British Columbian government was the first of these
provinces to jump out of the planning stage and into the internet gambling
industry. That effort failed horribly because of a hacker that took down the
site and stole player data within hours of the online casinos launch. As the
other Canadian provinces consider launching into the industry they are taking
heed of the situation that arose in BC and are making adjustments to their
launch strategies to ensure that this does not happen to them too.
Saskatchewan feels like the government is really missing out on the potential
right now but is working with foreign online casino software development
companies to launch the state monopolies. Rather than try to create the needed
software, platforms, and security measures themselves and encounter the BC
debacle once again, the Saskatchewan officials are closely watching what the
other provinces do in the coming months so they can learn from the mistakes
before stepping into the market.
There is so much potential within the Canadian online casino gambling industry
right now but the provincial governments are making cautious baby steps toward
the launch process so that the resulting industries are strong and able to meet
the needs of gamblers within their province. Quebec is right on the cusp of
legalization because the province has long had such a large internet gambling
presence with online gambling groups basing headquarters out of the region and
Harrah’s Interactive currently has the gambling group’s internet division
operating out of Motreal; this puts the province in a good position for
launching into the provincial run gambling market. |
