China's Missing Out
China boasts one of the largest population groups on the planet and yet the
government is incredibly restrictive on the amount of information coming into
this enormous population from the rest of the world and also attempts to keep
out some of the most pervasive international industries on the planet. The
online casino gambling industry is illegal throughout China and always has been
but only in the past two years has the government so clearly concerned itself
with the industry and attempted various controversial manners of blocks. There
are more than 420 million Chinese citizens with access to the internet, that
means 420 individuals and households that are potentially spending money via the
internet and also many of whom are attempting to access online casinos via their
computers.
The Chinese looks at these 420 million computer users and instead of finding a
way to legislate and mitigate the bad and illegal on the internet the Chinese
government has long favored censorship and bans – actions that are simply not
effective considering the skill of hackers at finding a way around just about
any block and ban. The Chinese government has a new plan in place of restricting
all internet game play through these new policies and systems as way to thus
block out the online casinos. But what the government is missing is the fact
that the Chinese internet gambling market represents a $3.8 billion industry
that is going to occur no matter what blocks are in place.
That means that the government is expending huge energy and money attempting to
block and ban online casinos from the market and missing out of the $3.8 billion
that is leaving the country without any additional taxes. The US market has
shown that bans don’t work. No Chinese ban has yet been effective and no other
powerful nation on the planet has managed to effectively block internet gambling
– so why are Chinese officials still fighting it?! |
