Pleading to Less
The Pennsylvania authorities are finally bringing to a close the illegal online
casino betting ring situation that made headlines last year. Internet sports
betting is illegal in the US and yet a 71 year old Pennsylvania man is accused
of running an illegal betting ring out of his sports bar. The man, Patrick Patte
Jr has been in negotiations with the prosecution concerning the illegal online
casino betting ring along with the two other men implicated in the betting ring,
the bar’s former manager, Mark G. Fino and another employee at the establishment
Christopher Marion. These three men were facing huge charges for not only
running an illegal betting ring, but by violating numerous bans right now
regarding illegal online casino gambling transactions.
The case is just coming to a close though and Patte Jr has come to an
undisclosed plea agreement with the prosecution that will likely see Patte Jr
serving less time in jail and for a lesser sentence than the felony offenses he
was facing. The documents about the case have been sealed by US District Judge A
Richard Caputo. The sentencing phase will begin next week and it is expected
that the full plea agreement about the online casino betting ring will be
released at that time.
Pennsylvania officials claim that there has been a rash of illegal online casino
betting and gambling activity in the state over the past several years and this
recent action is an attempt to bring down crime levels in the state. |
