Canadian Online Casino Involvement

The Canadian government has just announced new changes to the regulatory structure in the country where internet gambling is concerned. The Canadian online casino gambling industry is one of the hottest topics in the gambling industry right now because of the huge potential for revenues if the activity is regulated and licensed by the provincial governments. Most of Canada’s provincial governments have been considering legalizing and regulating their own mini internet gambling industries because the Canadian government is very hands-off where offshore online casinos are concerned. Although there is certainly a need for more regulatory oversight in the country the Canadian government is really just out-right ignoring internet gambling. As much as the government is not looking to regulate though, new additions to the country’s criminal codes do actually add a bit more protections within the Canadian gambling market.

The Canadian government just added four new outlines for criminal activity in the country and several of these are specifically in place to give Canadian police officials the power to better control criminal activity related to the online casinos. These new additions to the criminal code will give police officials the ability to indict and prosecute individuals who are engaged in illegal activities related to internet gambling and thus hopefully cut down on the organized crime occurring throughout Canada. Basically, the new offences simply outline specific criminal activities that are happening in relation to the online casinos, betting, and state lotteries.

When organized crime is able to exploit the online casinos, betting sites, and state lotteries through they then use that money to often fund more dangerous and violent crimes – adding the actions to the criminal code means they are now facing serious criminal charges when breaking the law and the punishments are much more severe – a hopeful deterrent as well as a way to empower local police forces to go after these cyber and gambling criminals.
