China Blocks Even More
The Chinese government has never placed a whole lot of emphasis or concern on
the international outrage that stemmed from the previous plans for internet
censorship. Although free of the internet is a concept strong in the Western
countries the Chinese government strongly believes that censorship and high
level filtering is a completely acceptable activity. The new government
restrictions in place are not as severe as the planned filtering ban of last
year, but the new program is designed to weed out all illegal online casino
gambling activity by creating a lot more loopholes and requirements for internet
gaming companies. Any internet business offering games within the Chinese market
must fall within the restrictions that online gaming content cannot violate the
social morals of the country nor the law.
The vague wording about social morals and the blocking of internet content that
imitates socially immoral activity is just a fancy way of saying that the online
casinos are banned as a part of the new restrictions as well, as if the previous
beans were not enough. In addition to blocking this specific type of gambling
the new Chinese restrictions program mandates that a new ID program is in place
and all internet gaming companies must implement a real name identification
program complete with age verification and restrictions on the amount of online
game play each person can engage in.
Online casino gambling and gaming is a $3.8 billion industry and yet the
government is still attempting to block the activity instead of embracing and
taxing the industry. Although the blocks may be minorly effective when first
implemented the hackers and savvy internet gamblers will still find ways to
gamble via offshore gambling sites with or without the new internet gaming
restrictions. |
