Online Casinos Clash Again
As the Commonwealth of Kentucky, USA, continues with its case to seize online
gambling domain names, the quest to cause damage to online casino gambling
insutry on the whole has become even more dramatic and is at the next stage. The
State of Kentucky has exerted much effort into nailing the online gambling
industry over the past several years and as it continues an increasing number of
online casinos are at risk.
In as much as the ongoing Kentucky case lacks specific figures still— in terms
of the alleged losses of residents at the internet gambling sites— the case has
been kept alive. In addition, there are even more cases filed against online
casinos besides the ongoing ones, this time that state is facing off against
PartyGaming and PartyPoker. Last March, the Commonwealth filed a case against an
operating company of Full Tilt Poker, Pocket Kings, in order to gain restitution
for the alleged money loss of residents through the company’s online casino
sites over the period of time between March 2005 and September 2009. The state
has also proceeded to file a case against PartyPoker, a prominent subsidiary of
PartyGaming.
Speculations have arisen, pointing out the possibility that the main reason why
the government of Kentucky has filed charges against PartyGaming is because its
merger with Bwin has greatly increased the value of the online caisno gambling
group and should the law suit push through there is more money on the table for
the State. According to Joe Brennan, the Kentucky’s approach is a scheme to
“force a settlement” through paying cash, and also believes that the government
takes advantage of the merger of PartyGaming and Bwin in order to get money. Mr.
Brennan, the Chairman of Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association,
has been defending online gambling operators throughout the Kentucky case. |
