Online Casino Sites Backing Out
The new licensing regimes in Canada and France have many online casinos rapidly
using the latest technology to back themselves out of these markets. France has
already implemented a strict licensing process for foreign internet gambling
sites and sites who have previously accepted French gamblers are using
geoblocking technology to identify a specific region and block gamblers from
that location. Similarly, as Canadian provinces begin to look toward a regulated
market with state-licensed gambling many online casinos are fearful of ruining
their chances for official licensing by continuing to operate in these markets.
The French situation has been working for several months now and the vast
majority of online casinos that were targeting and accepting French players have
now fully stopped their actions. These companies are interested in ARJEL
licensing in the coming months and illegal access to the French market will act
as a black strike in the licensing process. Similarly, a few of the Canadian
facing online casino sites have just released emails to players informing them
that they are no longer offering these services within parts of Canada that have
licensed and tightly regulated the market.
France and Canada are certainly not the only nations that have illegally
operating online casino gambling sites, but these two markets are just now
adopting liberalized licensing policies so the internet gambling sites are
voluntarily leaving to show compliance. They will then seek legal entry into the
market. Nations that continue to outright refuse liberal policies have been
forced to come up with creative (and ineffective) ways of keeping the gaming
sites out of the market. |
