Slots Versus the Online Casino Industry
The state of New Hampshire seems pretty keen on regulating the online casino
gambling industry as a way to further address state budget deficiets that
threaten to really cripple the state. It’s interesting to note though, that the
current New Hampshire state governor, John Lynch is a outspoken opponent of the
slot machine industry –a fact that seems quite a bit hypocritical to some in the
industry, but makes perfect sense to others. Governor Lynch opposes any of the
bills that aim at expanding land gambling, particularly the slot machines, but
yet feels that the online casinos are a much cleaner and controlled way of
bringing in new revenue to the state coffers.
Governor Lynch has gone on the record with his support for a New Hampshire
online casino gambling industry and that is making other state politicians a bit
antsy. There is a huge trend in the US right now toward legalizing internet
gambling, but that is not to say that the industry does not have some very
strong detractors. State politicians on the right claim that Governor Lynch’s
support of the online casinos just doesn’t make sense; he’s willing to put the
ability to gamble right inside every single home in the state, yet he opposes
land gambling and slots, which would require gamblers to leave their homes and
gamble in public.
The issue just isn’t as clear cut as that though. The detractors of online
casinos claim that internet gambling sites are more addictive than land gambling
– a fact that has been shown to the contrary by numerous studies. |
