Bookie Ring Uncovered...Again
The news this week may inflict a bit of déjà vu on ardent readers of the online
casino gambling industry news – and that’s because the gambling ring that has
just been busted by federal authorities was already busted back in 2006. The US
law enforcement agencies from two states collaborated over the past several
months to rebuild a case against two men from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania
who have been operating an illegal bookmaking business for years now. The online
casinos are strictly illegal in the US, as are interstate gambling and betting.
For the two Mastronardos however, the fact that they were arrested and pled
guilty to bookmaking charges back in 2006 has not seemed to phase these two men
enough to put a kibosh to their business.
The two men in question, Jospeh V. Mastronardo Jr and John Mastronardo, have
been on probation over the past several years because of a case that US
authorities already brought against the men in question. Both Mastronardo men
pled guilty to their bookmaking charges and paid the fines and stayed on
probation. But US authorities began to suspect that the men never fully shut
down their online bookmaking business and over the past several months have used
phone tapping and insider plants to cull out more evidence and information
against the both Mastronardos.
The information is in place and both men have been arrested on illegal land and
online casino bookmaking charges. The US authorities raided the homes of the two
men implicated in the sports betting ring and have seized more than $2 million
in cash in addition to bookmaking records and computers used to process and
record the transactions. |
