Indians Torn on Gaming
The Indian gaming laws in the United States are quite complex and are a key part
to the success and continuation of Indian reservations in the United States. As
a concession to the US tribes, federal legislation mandates that the Indian
reservations have equal rights to offer gaming and gambling within the state as
any other location within that state. That means that if Florida has legalized
bingo, then the Florida tribes are able to offer bingo on their land. Same goes
with the land casinos, and there is talk that as the US battles over the online
gambling industry, that the tribes could begin to offer this type of gaming as
well.
The US Indian tribes though have long fought the US legalization of online
casinos there are several tribes that are very outspoken against the internet
gambling industry. Still others though see the benefit in embracing the new
technology and even further widening the reach of gambling for reservations that
may reside in more remote locations or have less viability for land gambling
venues. The debate is really quite valid, and the issues that the tribes have
faced are problems and questions that all of the major land casinos in Atlantic
City and Las Vegas have also pondered will land gambling become obsolete with
a legalized internet gambling industry?
There is no easy way to answer that question its all speculation at this
point. And the tribes have still not come to a consensus on the situation,
arguments are heated and some tribes feel passionately that they should note
support a US online casino industry, others have no firm opinion one way or the
other. |
