Motivation Behind TabCorp Compliant
Gambling Craft just recently reported on the alarming situation in Victoria,
Australia involving the confiscation of a betting and gambling machine that
Victorian officials claim was being used as an online casino portal. VenueNet,
the company that owns the machine has hotly contested the claims and now, six
months later, is demanding that the Victorian officials return the company’s
machine. The initial complaint on the internet kiosk came from TabCorp, the
state’s monopolistic land betting company that claimed that VenueNet’s machine
was causing losses for the land betting company because internet users were able
to access the online casinos from VenueNet’s terminal.
TabCorp launched all of these recent claims against VenueNet, and now it comes
to light that the main motivating force behind TabCorp’s erroneous claims
against VenueNet lie within the fact that TabCorp is petitioning the state
government for the exclusive rights to operate gambling terminals within pubs in
Australia. VenueNet was actually a step ahead of TabCorp by launching these
internet kiosks and the company had to fight dirty by calling VenueNet a
glorified online casino in order to save enough time for TabCorp to potentially
win exclusive pub terminal rights.
VenueNet accurately claims that any internet terminal in Australia can be used
to access the online casinos just by virtue of being connected to the internet
and VenueNet’s machine has never been nor is marketed as an internet gaming
device. The Victorian officials have not budged on this issue yet, and VenueNet
is now likely in a race against TabCorp for rights to operate within pubs in
Australia. |
