Manitoba Consideration
Speculation has been passing through the online casino gambling industry about
the emerging regulations throughout Canada. Nearly every Canadian province has
recently announced plans to consider regulating internet gambling as a way to
better control the industry as well as bring in new revenues. Mantioba is the
latest region of Canada that has announced that internet gambling is on the
agenda. Manitoba has now joined British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Ontario in
this current discussion. The discussion really comes at an opportune time;
online casinos are rapidly expanding throughout Canada and the Canadian gambling
market is growing more significant on a weekly basis. These provinces are
looking at regulation as the way to take over where the Canadian government is
not and protect gamblers from some of the ills that can be associated with an
unregulated market.
As far as Manitoba is concerned, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs plans to
heavily discuss the online casino gambling industry and the possibility of new
legislation. While the Manitoba considers its side of the gambling industry, the
Manitoba Chiefs feel that they need to preemptively come to an agreed stance on
the subject of online casinos to better work with the Manitoba government on
regulations and legislation that will work for all parties involved.
The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs plans to thoroughly look at the current impact
that online casinos are having on the Indian land gaming venues as well as
potential impact should the pastime become legalized in the province. All of
these issues are quite valid considering Canadian tribal gaming is just as vital
in Canada as it is in the United States and provides a large amount of the
income the tribes bring in to support the reservations. |
