UK's Failed Legislation
The United Kingdom stands as one of the most liberal online casino gambling
markets on the planet. Back in 2007 the UK officials implemented a huge new
array of regulations that were designed to create a large and controlled UK
gambling market – and were designed to set an example for the rest of the world
on just how well the internet gambling industry can work with proper regulations
and controls. Unfortunately, not all of the plan panned out, and the UK never
realized its goal of becoming a popular licensing spot for the online casinos.
In fact, because of a wacky double taxation structure, after several years of
paying the UK’s hefty double taxes on internet gambling, loyal UK brands are
jumping ship and looking to fairer taxation and licensing jurisdictions.
The UK has now been forced to reassess all of its previous plans and reassess
the taxations structure for UK online casinos – possibly giving way and creating
high tax breaks for UK licensed gaming sites. The UK Gambling Commission and
Gerry Sutcliffe, the Sports Minister for the UK, are now looking into the
specific regulations and legislation that has kept the UK from obtaining its
goal as a model internet gambling jurisdiction.
Interested online casinos, those that have long considered the advantages of
having such close access to the UK gambling market, are watching closely as the
UK officials go back to the drawing board with the UK regulations and look for
opportunities to create a level playing field in the UK market between offshore
licensed sites, and domestically licensed gambling groups. |
