Poker Gains Street Cred
The name Lithuania doesn’t have a lot of link with the online casino gambling
industry right now, and that’s because the Baltic States have really only
recently started to grow economically strong enough to consider new options for
legalizing forms of internet gambling and formally entering the market. The
Lithuanian government has never previously dabbled within the online casino
gambling industry, but just this past week the Lithuanian government announced
that poker would now be considered an actual sport within the country. The
Eastern European internet gambling market is ripe for expansion right now and
most of the countries are just now beginning to sort out their stance on the
online casinos and forms of internet gambling.
The decision to officially add poker as a sport within the state comes down as a
decision from the Lithuanian Department of Physical Education and Sports. The
Department announced that it was officially adding the Lithuanian Sports Poker
Federation to the country’s list of official sports federations. There is really
no telling what this means for the online casino poker sites that will surely
begin to strongly vie for a piece of the Lithuanian internet poker market. For
now, the Lithuanian Poker Federation is focusing on the land poker industry and
ways to develop and nurture a full tournament schedule within the country.
Additionally, the Poker Federation plans to prep with the rest of the land and
online casino poker industry for the upcoming WSOP event in Las Vegas. A great
way to formally launch Lithuania onto the poker scene would be for Lithuania’s
best poker players to perform well at the WSOP events. |
